Can you still remember the legendary Nike Air Trainer 1 tennis shoe
that came
out in 1987 as a cross trainer shoe project, but soon became a hit as a
tennis shoe
and it was even used in the NBA at one point.

“Agnes b, Levi’s, Calvin Klein, Nine West,
d-mop……we are arrived!
Our
birthday is coming up on Saturday the 30. of January. We celebrate it
at VEGA in Copanhagen and it's joined by our good friends and partners
from Tartelet Records. The line-up is massive, with liveacts from
Germans Wareika and Brand Brauer Frick. On this
link you
can see a video of
Brandt Brauer Frick in Berlin, just to get an idea. Apart from the two
liveacts we'll have a range of "Tartelets" playing and we're even
setting an AIAIAI Team (Frederik, Mix, Arne and Kasper), it'll be good
fun. Apart from celebrating our respective birthdays we are also
presenting and testing some new versions of our TMA-1
DJ project
and we are super exited to see how they function and sound - think we
are getting close. We'll be serving you loads of drinks and beers from
11PM, so if you're anywhere near, pls make sure you don't miss this
B-bash.
We
just
came back from the ”Bread & Butter”
exhibition in
Berlin, which took place in quite an interesting historical building:
The Tempelhof Airport. Tempelhof has been designated as an airport
since 1923 and in 1941 the current terminal building was taken into
use. At one point it was among the largest buildings in the world and
Norman Foster described it as ”the mother of all
airports”.
An impressive sight! Anyway, we were on the “1st
floor”
– a section for young and upcoming brands (read companies
with
limited funds!) situated rather remotely in the very corner of the old
airport. On the lower left corner of the collage you can actually see
the view from the "1st floor" and surely we where quite delighted not
to be part of that borring, traditional-tradeshow-atmosphere down
there. Instead the "1st floor" kind of reminded us of the old A-house
days, with the small almost ramshackle rooms, where we could do
whatever we wanted. Some local artists had installed the walls with
some simple art, super well suited for our little setup. Our friend
Rolf from HAY
had helped us with some cool and
simple
furniture and Bo from I'm a kombo
helped us with little fun
play-stop-pause-rewind cookies that people could enjoy with their
coffey from the next door café. Thanks to Rolf and Bo.
Altogether it was three well-visited days in company with our friends
from WoodWood,
Happy Socks
and Libertine-Libertine.
And hey, we
even got to try out
the legendary Berghein Panorama Bar – quite an experience!
Even
if
the thought of classrooms scares your creative soul, the Rethink
Scholarship should get your creative juices flowing. Their attempt to
spread the news about their $ 18 000 scholarship makes your childhood
pop-up books look terribly outdated and sets a new standard for
creativity with 'analog' tools. In an age of increasingly cheeky
attempts at viral succes, this video is refreshingly genuine and
surprising. Now go apply!
Our
friends from LEGO have just launched a line of Mini Figures perfect for
collectors. Series 1 consists of popular iconic figures from the LEGO
world. Due for a 2010 release the series is made up of 16 figures, each
blind packed, so you’ll have to shop around to get the whole
collection, but as they are just $2 each, it won’t empty your
wallet.. Series 2 could be a curated series, who knows?
Our
good friend Jon
"Joshua" Schumann recently
received a Swedish Grammis. He won the price for producing Kent's
latest album "Röd". Jon is also helping us on the upcoming DJ
project, the TMA-1 Headphone, which is to be launched this comig
summer. Congratulations Jon - you certainly deserve it!
On
the 18th of
January we are heading to Berlin to
take part in the Tradeshow Bread & Butter. We will have a room
on
the 1st floor with our friends and partners from WoodWood and it'll be
great fun. We have loads of exciting meetings set up, but if you're
anywhere close, please stop by...The exact location is the new
fashion-meets-art area called '1st Floor'. We will be in the room right
next to the bar...hope to see you.
Here's a few
pics from a night with I'm a kombo...

It
was an
untraditional "Christmas Lunch"
rejuvenating our understanding of how to eat food. Eating from a trash
can, from a lamp and from a Christmas tree. Kind of strange, but at the
same time rather amusing, especially looking at everyone else around
the table and how their face expressions evolved through out the
night...try it! Rumors say they've found a new venue and will be doing
another round sometime in February. their website will keep you updated.
We
are very happy to start 2010 with
the 9th ep from Tartelet brought to you by the Tartelet founders Tomas
Barfod and Frederik Bille Brahe. Tickle song have been lying around on
our harddrive for some time but like a good redwine it has been ageing
very well, and now it is ready to be released.
The
original is a house song
but sounds like it could have been played by Herbie Hancock. It
features a teasing synthesizer solo, edgy live bass and live drums. To
notch it up Tartelet asked Falko Brocksieper known from great releases
on Sub Static and Tuning Spork to remix it and he has made a stripped
down dark dubstep-disco version. Tartelets newest Danish talents Emil
Viril & Chesper made a very efficient house remix.
You
can
retrieve the tracks from this link.
Enjoy...
For
the
record, this is my first contribution to the AIAIAI blog. I usually
blog about music at goingotherplaces.com,
and I hope to keep you
entertained on here, too, in the future.
Until
2010 gets its own soundtracks, the Dutch playlist-portal 22tracks
has invited 22 different genre-experts to
each pick their favorite track released in the last year from one of 22
different genres. The tracks include Breakage's cutting-edge dubstep,
Japandroid's noise pop, and Lindstrøm's pleasant vibes, but
also
visit more experimental grounds with Steve Reich's compositions and a
healthy dose of reggae, jazz, latin, and jazz thrown in for good
measure. Don't let the genre-craze intimidate you, the tracks are all
solid and well-worth a listen until 2010 delivers its own soundtrack.
"It's a little place on the Internet devoted to creativity, innovation,
and the moment when ideas just CL!CK. Come to inspire and be inspired.
And bring your LEGO bricks"
Like
so many others do this time of the year, we would like to suggest what
we think is this year's best tracks. The songs are not necessesarily
from the best albums of 2009 (but most of them are really...)
The
songs are in no particular order. Just click on the links to listen...
Before
our grand X-mas lunch at I'm a komBo (will bring you photos of that
later), we went through the freezing streets of Copenhagen to visit
some friends and wish them a Merry X-mas. We started out at the
Pølsevogn (sausage wagon), went by all the little legendary
pubs, that truly mean a lot to our Danish culture, passed WoodWood and
Norse, went down to Studiestræde 31 - where we might move to
at some point - and ended up with a cup of varm chocolate by our
friends at Ricco's. We took a few pictures on the way and created this
little sequenze....Merry x-mas!!
I'm a komBo
has just
opened a super cool pop-up restaurant...
Wednesday,
December 16, 2009 5:13:19 PM CET
Our
good
friends from I'm a komBo
(Lasse & Bobby) have just opened a so-called pop-up restaurant
at the A-house, where we used to reside in the old days. The restaurant
is open for the month of December and it's been overbooked long before
it opened. Luckily we got a few seats and are heading there on Saturday
for an AIAIAI Christmas dinner. Will bring you photos next week.
The
pop-up
restaurant
marks the opening of a new apartment hotel project at the A-house
called STAY.
STAY has pre-opened during the COP15 and houses part of the American
delegation for the 2 weeks. Rumors even say Air-force One is landing on
Friday and that they are heading straight to the A-house for a quick
"STAY". The place will close down for Christmas and re-open early next
year.
AIAIAI
are actually part of the project STAY. As old facilitators of the
creative institution at the A-house, we've been asked to provide STAY
some creative concepts and ideas, making it more that just a regular
apartment hotel and following up on what happened back in the house
back in the days. Pop-up resaturants, music profile, creative
workshops, fashion shows are just a few of the projects we're working
on. Keep you posted on how it proceeds.
Check
out this
new blog
from the nice gals, and good friends of ours, over at LA Graphic Design
- They definitely know their way around art, design, architecture and
just random cool stuff. Latest, we espacially like their post on the
collaboration between artists Matthew
Barney
& Elizabeth Peyton
In
case you missed it, Beck has
started what he refers to as a "Record Club" where he gets together a
group of his friends and covers a classic/famous album from start to
finish. For the first album, he joined with a series of folks including
producer Nigel Godrich, Joey Waronker, Brian Lebarton, Bram Inscore,
Yo, Giovanni Ribisi, Chris Holmes, and from Iceland, special guest
Thorunn Magnusdottir. Some of the tracks are better than others, but it
sure sounds like they had fun recording the stuff!
We
just created a little T-shirt
Label at AIAIAI LAB. The idea is to release a new line of tees every
once in a while. It could be resembling one of our partnerships, it
could be an artist doing a cool print or just some kind of statement we
would like to share. The print on the tees below are all created by MIX
- our creative head at AIAIAI. They are now available in our webshop
and will also be sold at selected stores throughout the world. Check
them out by clicking on the picture below.

Cool
footage
of our test procedures... Friday, September 25,
2009
12:45:56 PM CEST
In
striving to improve our products and pursue the desired quality, we put
our products through a durability test using these amazing robots.
They'll pull the cables, push the button, plug the plug over and over
again. We've created this little video footage to show you how it looks
and works - quite cool!
Apart from this functional testing procedure we also test the sound
response with our partners from Bruel & Kjær.
- edited and musically composed by our creative designer Kasper. Put
some sound on!

Sneaker Freaker launch in Copenhagen... Friday, September 25,

Here's
some pics from our launch reception at Norse in Copenhagen. Thumbs up
to everyone for showing up except for the Police, who shut us down long
before we where ready. Good thing we have legendary Bobi Bar just
around the corner...
A-stand
project ready for launch... Tuesday, September 1,
2009
6:43:23 PM CEST
We
are
happy to introduce a new project within AIAIAI Lab. Based on a design
by PhD Dan Steingart the A-stand serves a functional and practical need
in improving the ergonomic work position at your workstation. The
simple and iconic industrial design is inspired by the use of plumbing
tubes in designing anything from chairs to lamps. The idea of creating
a laptop stand out of plumbing tubes was taken up by AIAIAI Lab and was
further developed into it’s current design and choice of
material.
We
are super satisfied with the result of the packaging design. A super
simple blister solution based on the colors of the product inside. Not
only does it look cool with you laptop, but it should also look kind of
cool to carry this product out of a store. The product will soon be
available in shops all over the world.

AIAIAI
Sticker Project
Wednesday,
July 1, 2009 11:19:43 AM CEST
Hera's
a
peek at a little
AIAIAI sticker project at this years Roskilde Festival.
"As
a
celebration of the
creative spirit that you, aswell as our company possess, we encourage
you to make your own patterns, typography, character design or whatever
you can come up with, with the use of the letters from our logo. The
following examples are meant as a helping hand in terms of inspiration
and on that note, let us stress that there are no limits (except
perhaps for the number of sticker sheets...) Enjoy this playful
exercise and remember to always put your mark on the world that
surrounds you."
At
the
AIAIAI Gallery we will
try to create some kind of fluxus art piece from these stickers, where
anybody can come create their own section. At night the wall will be
lit up by monochromatic light changing between the base colours, that
way making it almost alive! We are really looking forward to seeing how
it works. Thanks to Magnus for creating the monochromatic light section.

We
recently teamed up with
top-tier fashion network Beams for our launch in Japan, and as big fans
of them and the things they do we are proud to announce that AIAIAI
products will now feature in all of their shops. Hopefully we will also
move closer into some more elaborate projects in near future... More to
come
